Suddenly it happens. An opéra-ballet by Campra from 1700, that was thought to be lost since more than 300 years, is found in a box at the National Archives in Saint-Denis. The supposedly lost dance music from a 1701 ballet honouring the Swedish king, is found in the Düben collection in Uppsala.

I keep repeating that baroque dance happens now, that it is interpreted by today's artists, and used as a tool of communication with today's audiences. But at the same time I get the shivers when these things happen, when the connection to the past becomes so clear. What we perform today is part of the 'thread of time', between past and future.

I just performed the last production of this year, which for me personally has been an exceptionally rich and inspiring one, switching from dancer to choreographer, from company director to teacher, from rehearsal director to actress. It is with deep gratitude that I look back at all the contexts, the cultures and, above all, the people that I got to share my time with. May our paths, as well as new ones, be shared again!

Happy New Year wishes from Paris, and thank you for reading our newsletter,

Karin Modigh
Artistic Director

Nordic Baroque Dancers is a Sweden-based company directed by Karin Modigh, herself living in Paris.

We work with different choreographers and project-based teams in a variety of contexts. Our vision is to nurture and broaden the view of baroque dance.

Be it productions based on choreographies from the Feuillet-notated repertoire, or new creations using the baroque aesthetic as a point of departure, the work is driven by the conviction that the 17th and 18th-century dance arts have an intrinsic value, independently of their historical context.
